Time clock

The Time clock (/time-clock) lets everyone on your team punch in when they start work and punch out when they finish. Each person sees their own recent shifts and hours, and managers can see who's on the clock right now.

Where to find it

Open Time clock from the sidebar, under Operations.

Who can use it

  • Everyone who signs in to your store can use the time clock, whatever their role. There's no permission to grant.
  • On the clock now appears only for people with the View team members permission (owners, admins, and managers, by default).
  • Plan: the time clock is included with every plan. Each person punches in with their own login, and each login is a user seat. See Payments & billing.

Punch in

  1. Open Operations → Time clock.
  2. If you like, add a Note, such as Opening shift.
  3. Click Punch in.

The card turns green and shows On the clock, the time you punched in, and a running timer.

Punch out

  1. Open Operations → Time clock.
  2. If you took a break, enter it in Break (minutes). It's taken off your hours.
  3. Add a Note if you want one.
  4. Click Punch out.

The shift moves into Recent shifts.

Your recent shifts

Recent shifts lists your last 14 finished shifts, each with its date, start and end times, any break, and the hours worked.

See who's on the clock

If you can view team members, On the clock now at the bottom of the page lists everyone who's punched in, when they started, and how long they've been on. It refreshes every minute.

Common questions

Q. I forgot to punch out. What happens? A. Your shift stays open, and its timer keeps running, until you punch out. The times can't be changed afterwards.

Q. Can a manager fix someone's punches? A. Not yet. Managers can see who's on the clock, but punches are kept exactly as they were made.

Q. Can I export timesheets for payroll? A. Not from the time clock. It shows each person their own recent shifts, but it has no timesheet report or export yet.

Q. Is the time clock connected to the staff schedule or the register? A. No. The staff schedule is the plan for who should work; the time clock records when people did. Punching in is also separate from opening a register on Counters.
